Doctor Who’s Matt Smith Open to Joining the MCU

Doctor Who’s Matt Smith Open to Joining the MCU

For the foreseeable future, it appears as though there will be no shortage of roles available in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3 of the films has only just begun and Marvel has tentative plans heading into Phase 4 already. On the TV side of the universe, Marvel is expanding their reach as far as they can. They have Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, an entire lineup of shows in NYC on Netflix, and are planning to bring Runaways to Hulu and Cloak & Dagger to Freeform.

With many more projects in development that are currently being held under wraps, Marvel has recently been casting some of the biggest and most popular names in the business. From A-list movie stars, to up and coming actors, and budding TV stars, Marvel has made it their habit to find the best talent available. Well, if Matt Smith from Doctor Who has it his way, he will be able to join the growing universe in some capacity.

Smith’s days of being The Doctor may or may not be behind him, but he is hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of other Doctor Who cast members and join the MCU. Smith is currently at New York Comic-Con and at a recent panel, he was asked if he would like to join the Marvel family just like David Tennant (Jessica Jones) and Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy). His answer according to Bustle was very simple saying, “My answer is… when will they ask me?

Doctor Who’s Matt Smith Open to Joining the MCU

It sounds as though Smith is ready to join the MCU and all he is waiting for is an offer from Marvel. Smith is best known for his work on television, but has started to venture into film as well, meaning both could potentially be landing places for him. Regardless of the role he could potentially play, he is the exact type of actor that Marvel loves to cast. Not only is he a talented guy, but his role in Doctor Who has made him incredibly popular.

It is easy to see Smith getting a role on either the big or small screen within the MCU, but that could largely depend on what length commitment he is willing to sign up for. He could easily take a similar approach as Tennant and take a villain or supporting role on the Netflix side, but he is also capable of following the lead of Gillan and get a substantial role in the films. If this is meant to be, fans of Smith could see him join in the near future.
