Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Teaser Trailer

It’s shaping up to be a memorable day for fans of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Not only has director James Gunn released the undeniably cool first official poster sporting the entire cast in black and white (and a brand new tagline), but the first official look at the film’s action and locations has arrived. The first full length trailer may still be a ways away (having been recently classified), but to tide fans over, the studio has released a “sneak peek” of the adventure in store.

The footage, according to Gunn, is meant to pique the appetites and curiosity of fans who were’t able to catch an early look at the film during San Diego Comic-Con. But even if this teaser isn’t as extensive as the trailer on the way, it shows more than enough to get the theories flying. Not to mention the many campaigns to give “Baby Groot” his very own movie franchise sooner rather than later.

There isn’t quite enough of a story tease in the trailer for newcomers, or simply fans who haven’t been following every rumor and detail along the way. Those who have will likely recognize the forest locations as possibly those of Ego the Living Planet, and understand that Star-Lord poised on the cusp of even more stranger cosmic frontiers fits the tone and scale of the film perfectly.

Also worth pointing out is the un-hooding of Nebula, the cybernetically-augmented ‘Daughter of Thanos’ working to destroy the Guardians in their first film – now turned around to be joining the crew along their adventure. The link between Nebula and Gamora is expected to carry that subplot – meaning vulnerability may not be on the menu in a traditional sense – but seeing her on her knees and exposed (captured?) helps explain how she falls from her former heights.

Fans who’ve been following development will be able to spot some returning faces, iconic locations, and even a hint or two at some climactic battles. Also, if you’re a fan of seeing space marines helplessly falling through zero gravity, then this first official look is exactly what the doctor ordered.
