Justice League: Zack Snyder Shares New Set Photos

As Hollywood blockbusters grow bigger and bigger, so does the search for exotic shooting locations around the world. It’s great when filmmakers seek out real-world spots rather than simply shoot everything in front of a green screen. And although he has made plenty of films with a heavy green screen component, director Zack Snyder, despite some of his past misfires, is one of the few out there who wants to give as much realism to his films as possible. He brought some dark but alluring visuals in the incredibly divisive Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he hopefully will continue that trend with 2017’s Justice League. The film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) as he tries to bring together the other members of the soon-to-be Justice League — Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and the seemingly dead Superman (Henry Cavill).

Because production on Justice League recently wrapped, Snyder has been sharing some great photos from the various sets. One of the most intriguing shooting locations is Iceland’s Djúpavík village, a small coastal area where much of Aquaman’s story takes place. The village is by far one of the most gorgeous sets that Snyder has ever worked on. It features majestic mountain ranges and lakes, and never fails to completely blow you away at even the slightest glance. And if fans want to see even more of this other-worldly place, Snyder’s here to save the day once again.

Through his personal Vero account (via Batman News), Snyder released a few new Justice League photos that show some familiar spots. A few of them are from the Iceland set, one with Momoa dressed in his fantastic trench coat, and the others displaying the country’s unique landscapes. The remaining photos feature the familiar vacation home of Bruce Wayne seen in Dawn of Justice. Take a look at them in the gallery below.

Some complained that Dawn of Justice was too dark, and not just because of its extremely dour tone. The film’s locations were usually covered in shadows, which didn’t allow for much exploration around the frame. And looking at Snyder’s past work, it’s clear that he prefers a darker visual aesthetic as opposed to the high-key lighting of many Marvel films. But these new Justice League set photos tease a potentially subdued version of Snyder. Warner Bros. made some pretty significant changes to the DCEU after Dawn of Justice failed to meet exceptions, so it’s not at all surprising that Justice League is utilizing a somewhat lighter tone because of it. But no matter what, the film’s real-world sets couldn’t be better.

Even though the DCEU is currently in between a rock and hard place, it’s possible that Justice League could help push it in the right direction. Warner Bros. has assembled an incredibly talented team of directors and actors to partake in this massive project, and even though there is darkness behind them, the light may not be as far away as some think.
