Logan Image Asks Where The Mutants Have Gone

Ever since it was revealed that the third solo Wolverine film would be called Logan earlier this month, Twentieth Century Fox has kicked off their marketing campaign in a highly secretive manner. So far, no teaser trailer has been released, but a collection of mysterious black and white images have made their way online, providing hints and glimpses for fans. Whether it’s Professor X looking worse for wear, the arm of one of Wolverine’s victims, or an unidentified character out on the town during prom night, viewers have had plenty to theorize about.

Little is known about the Logan plot right now, but speculation points to a main narrative that is set during the year 2024, where Wolverine and Charles Xavier are on their last days. In this hypothetical future, the number of babies born with mutant abilities have started to decline, and it would appear that their kind has become endangered, so to speak. Logan‘s social media campaign continues today with another tantalizing photo that doesn’t bode well for mutants.

The official Logan Instagram account shared a picture with the one-word caption “Mutants.” It shows a close up of what is most likely etched graffiti on the door of a bathroom stall posing the question “Where are all the mutants?” You can check it out below:

Though the still doesn’t show much, it does lend some credence to the earlier reports about Logan‘s story line. If citizens around the world are wondering where mutantkind has gone off to, it stands reason to believe that there are not that many left on Earth. In all likelihood, the movie will provide some sort of explanation as for why that is, and it will be interesting to see what director James Mangold comes up with. It’s been said that a company called Transigen is turning young mutants into killing machines, so maybe there was a war or great battle that led to a majority of the mutant population being wiped out.

The cryptic approach Fox is taking to rev up advertising for Logan is definitely appreciated in an era where studios are guilty of spoiling their prized tentpoles more often than not, but soon they’re going to have to provide some clarity. Some fans are starting to get impatient waiting for the first trailer, so hopefully footage premieres soon. There’s still five months to go until Logan hits theaters, which is more than enough time to share a bevy of promotional items. When the calendar flips to November, there will be several high-profile blockbusters opening, and that would be the ideal opportunity to unleash the first look at R-rated Wolverine.

Logan opens in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6, 2017, March 2, 2018, and June 29, 2018. Deadpool 2GambitNew Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.
