Logan Photo Teases a Mysterious Motel

For a superhero film releasing less than half a year from now, things had been awfully quiet on the front of the upcoming third Wolverine solo film until very recently. It’s only been half a week now since we’ve even had a name for the film (Logan), but since the official poster unveiling, there has been a steady stream of details and images trickling in to tantalize eager fans. Director James Mangold (The Wolverine) released a page from the very R-rated script by Michael Green (Green Lantern) and David James Kelly, which is set to feature Hugh Jackman wearing the claws for the last time.

Since the title unveiling, an Instagram account under the moniker “wponx” (for Weapon X) has appeared. First, it showed an image of actor Patrick Stewart as a weathered Professor Charles Xavier. Then the account delivered a look at the severed arm of a man likely unfortunate enough to have challenged Logan. After that, there was a barb-wired fence bordering a closed property in a Spanish-speaking country.

With the wponx Instagram account clearly in no mood to stop feeding fans images, we now have a neon-lit motel in the reflection of a puddle at night.

The image evokes a strong stylistic intent, but it’s also extremely sparse on details. There is also the silhouette of a man in the reflection who appears to be wearing a fedora, though it seems more likely that this is an extra or crew member than a principal cast member of the film. Unlike the previous image, this one takes place in an English-speaking country, so either Logan is a globetrotting adventure or the story takes place on the U.S./Mexican border.

Focusing on the style of the image — it’s black and white, like the others. While it’s highly doubtful that Logan will be filmed in black and white, the promotional imagery seems designed to indicate a noirish intent. We’ve frequently heard that Logan would be stylistically different than every X-movie we’ve seen before. Could this be an indication that we’re due for a gritty mystery thriller with Wolverine in the role of the hard-boiled detective? Hopefully, a trailer will hit sooner than later to give us some real details.

Be sure to share any fan-theories in the comments section, and stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates on Logan as they hit.

Logan opens in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6, 2017, March 2, 2018, and June 29, 2018. Deadpool 2GambitNew Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.
