New Harry Potter Posters Created By Star Wars Artist Olly Moss

Until Disney bought Lucasfilm and brought the Star Wars franchise back for modern audiences, the argument could be made that Harry Potter was essentially the Star Wars of the new generation. Detailing the hero’s journey of the Boy Who Lived, the series introduced readers (and eventually viewers) to a magical, fantasy universe where anything was possible, likable protagonists tasked with defeating ultimate evil, and a memorable musical cue from John Williams. Both worlds are so expansive that their respective studios are even developing spinoff movies to flesh them out even further. This fall, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story should be two major box office hits.

Another similarity between the two properties is that they have spawned passionate fan bases eager to show their love for the franchise in whatever way possible. This can include hanging posters on the wall, and there’s no shortage of beautiful artwork inspired by pop culture brands. Minimalist one-sheets are typically a collector favorite, as they potentially can be more visually-striking than the official posters for the films. Some may recall that artist Olly Moss attracted a great deal of attention when he gave the Star Wars saga this treatment a while back, and now he’s done the same for Harry Potter.

The posters all show the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the same angle, with the key different between the seven being the color scheme. Each one includes iconography that is directly associated with the story. For instance, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has Hagrid bringing a young Harry into the wizarding world, while The Deathly Hallows depicts Harry, Ron, and Hermione on their Horcrux quest, returning to a Hogwarts damaged in a great battle. You can check them out in the gallery below:

For those interested, the posters are available for purchase on Moss’ website until October 25, 2016. The cost is $50 per individual one-sheet or $275 for the entire set. That may seem like a steep price, but there’s no denying these are gorgeous designs. Many will be interested in getting at least a single poster to call their own, commemorating their favorite installment with something that’s eye-catching and memorable. Harry Potter mania is sweeping up the zeitgeist again with the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the Fantastic Beasts film premiering, so it’s safe to say these will sell well. It is important to note that since production is based on the number of orders, shipments will not be made for about two or three months from now.

This could very well be just the beginning of Moss craft Harry Potter posters. It was recently revealed that Fantastic Beasts will be a series of five feature films, meaning there’s enough there to piece together another set for the misadventures of Newt Scamander and friends. If the spinoffs prove to be as successful as many think they will be, the demand for more minimalist one-sheets could be there.
