New Logan Photo: It's Prom Time

Since the calendar flipped to October 2016, X-Men movie fans have been enjoying a cornucopia of content from the new film Logan, the third solo Wolverine vehicle. Shortly after the title was made official via poster, rumored plot details started to emerge, and Fox has been keeping the movie in the headlines by posting a series of cryptic black and white images on social media. These pictures have shown the aftermath of one of Wolverine’s attacks, Professor X looking very worse for wear, and mysterious locations from the film to tease fans.

This collection of photos has also served as the unveiling of franchise newcomers. Earlier this week, audiences got their first look at Boyd Holbrook’s character, with many believing he is playing the villain Donald Pierce. Now, moviegoers have another fresh face to theorize about thanks to the reveal of another new picture from Logan.

Showing up on the film’s now infamous Instagram account, the image is simply captioned “Prom” and shows an unidentified actor in (fittingly) a prom suit standing in the street and striking a pose. You can check it out below:

As of this writing, nothing has been confirmed, but some fans are speculating that the character shown could be Arcade, who in the comics is an evil genius hitman that created the “amusement park” Murderworld to house his elaborate death traps. In the comics, he has targeted several Marvel superheroes, including Spider-Man, Captain Britain, Iron Man, The Thing, and multiple members of the X-Men. Given that most of the Logan story remains tightly under wraps, it’s difficult to say for sure if this is the case, but Arcade appearing is a plausible scenario. There’s still much to learn about the antagonists in the movie (though Mister Sinister seems like a no-go), as most of the coverage so far has been about the titular mutant and his old mentor.

The staunch secrecy surrounding these pictures has only increased the demand and anticipation for the first Logan trailer, which should be arriving soon. In all likelihood, the preview will be just a teaser and not offer too much in the way of information, but at this point any clarity shed would be appreciated. With the promise of this being a “very different” R-rated take on the character, many can’t wait to see what director James Mangold has in store. Hopefully Hugh Jackman’s grand finale as Wolverine will be one to remember, mysteries and all.

Logan opens in U.S. theaters on March 3, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6, 2017, March 2, 2018, and June 29, 2018. Deadpool 2GambitNew Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.
