Spider-Man: Homecoming — Tom Holland Confirms Sequel Talks Are Underway

Spider-Man: Homecoming - Tom Holland Confirms Sequel Talks Are Underway

Sony and Marvel Studios were able to make longtime Spider-Man fans’ dreams come true earlier this year. After agreeing upon a deal to share the rights to Spider-Man and his supporting characters, Captain America: Civil War marked the first time Spider-Man shared the big screen with the Avengers. Tom Holland has won audiences over after only appearing in two scenes in Civil War, which generated a lot of excitement for his upcoming solo movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

There has been no shortage of set photos appearing online throughout production, all the way up until it was announced the new movie finished filming not long ago. This means that for the time being, Holland doesn’t have to worry about suiting up in the costume, especially considering he may not be in Avengers: Infinity War. Even if Spider-Man isn’t in the next Avengers film, Holland has now confirmed that talks regarding a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming are already underway.

Holland was recently interviewed by WWD to promote his upcoming film The Lost City of Z, where he was also asked about his superhero role. While most audiences have yet to see any official footage from the film, it appears that Sony and Marvel are already pleased with what has been made, and they are discussing plans for his next solo film and who Spidey could be fighting.

“My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming - Tom Holland Confirms Sequel Talks Are Underway

The reveal that a sequel is being discussed at this point is no surprise, and given the reaction to his role in Civil War, it seems audiences have been reinvigorated with interest in Spider-Man. Holland is going to be playing this character for many more years to come, and a sequel could potentially come as soon as 2019 or 2020.

While there have been many cases where premature sequel announcements have not materialized, these are merely discussions at this point. Once Marvel and Sony announce a release date for the sequel, then this news will be official.

A sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is in very early development at this point with no official release date or title. Screen Rant will continue to update the development as more news becomes available.
