As fans will already know, the God-Killer becomes a key accessory for Wonder Woman, and previous trailers has shown her pulling it neatly from the back of her dress, ready to fight for her cause. The image above is from the start of the movie, and the story will evolve from there. Jenkins directs from a script written by Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers, Grey’s Anatomy) and DCEU architect Geoff Johns, based on a story by Heinberg and Zack Snyder.

Given the poor reception the DCEU films have received thus far, Wonder Woman is under pressure to perform. The movie will form the fourth part of the DCEU, following on from Man of Steel and the aforementioned Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad. The fifth movie in the universe, Justice League, will arrive in November 2017. Given Wonder Woman‘s popularity, both among DC comic book fans and casual moviegoers/ TV viewers, Jenkins must deliver a movie that has abroad range of appeal. All things point toward Wonder Woman having a strong story, and knowing that we start at the very beginning, will be a good thing for viewers who might not be familiar with the character or her origins. Wonder Woman delivers a lesson in DC history, of sorts, since it follows Diana through her journey from her home of Themyscira to Europe and the war. Along the way, she teams up with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who crash lands on Themyscira and informs the Amazonian inhabitants about “the war to end all wars.”

She might have been dropped as a UN ambassador for gender equality, but Wonder Woman is every inch the strong female role model, and, if the film hits the right notes, could well turn out to be one of the best female protagonists of all time. Certainly her comic-book legacy already has her in good standing, and it’s up to the movie to capitalize on that.
