Justice League: Jason Momoa Bids Farewell to Training Gym

The DC Extended Universe has kicked off to a rocky start, with each entry so far bitterly dividing critics and fans alike. Hope is high that Wonder Woman will be the crowd-pleasing hit that Warner Brothers wants, but all eyes are on Justice League to balance the series’ grimdark signature style with a sense of levity and hope (similar to Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy). Fortunately, the film is bringing some fresh blood – three all new heroes to bring a new dynamic to the DCEU. Among these is actor Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman.

With a massive, muscley build, Momoa got his start on Baywatch but was soon promoted to prominent warrior roles like Game of Thrones‘ Khal Drogo and Conan the Barbarian. Naturally staying in such pristine superhero shape isn’t an easy task, but how does Momoa feel about it?

Having recently wrapped principal filming on Justice League, Momoa recently posted a couple of videos to his Instagram account documenting his last day in the UK-based gym, with which he admits he has a love/hate relationship.

Last day in the Home Gym. A big Mahalo to @wfmft for building this world for us and pushing me inspiring me and to zach for believing in me it’s an honor to play aquaman 5 more days and I’m going back to being Hawaiian. Ready to grind cuz. Cheeeehooooooi. Fish and poi @jasonericlaciste awlright. ALOHA j

See, kids? Even the pros get tired of being super-buff all the time! Many folks dream of being built like the superheroes we see in the movies, which explains the popularity of articles about “the 300 workout” and its ilk. However, even with the proper routine, sustaining the necessary level of exercise necessary to achieve and maintain such a build requires nearly superhuman commitment.

Momoa seems relieved to have a break from the toil, but he seems no less pleased to have been able to partake, thanking Zack Snyder for the opportunity to bring Aquaman to life. With the Aquaman solo film next in the schedule, Momoa’s break will likely be short lived. Hopefully, he gets his fill of Hawaiian fish and poi before moving on to his next big gig.
