The Dark Tower Trailer to Arrive Near Christmas

Following the release of several exclusive photos from the set of The Dark Tower – the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s best-selling novel series of the same name – anticipation for the film, which stars Idris Elba (Star Trek Beyond) and Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) as Roland Deschain and The Man in Black, is quite high. After spending several years in various stages of pre-production, the fantasy adventure has now come together and is currently in post-production, under the supervision of director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair).

Following the news that filming on The Dark Tower movie is done and that King’s fourth novel in The Dark Tower book series, Wizard and Glass, is headed to TV, everything related to The Dark Tower seems to be a bit of a hot ticket commodity of late. On that note, the latest word on the first official trailer for The Dark Tower movie is that you can expect to see it closer to the end of this year.

Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman spoke with Collider about several projects that the studio is currently hard at work on – most notably, its Marvel Studios co-production Spider-Man: Homecoming and the sci-fi drama/thriller Passengers –  and also revealed that the first official trailer for The Dark Tower should arrive just in time for the 2016 winter holiday season. Speaking to the enthusiasm held for the beloved Stephen King property, Rothman talked at length about the movie’s wide appeal to both fans and newcomers alike, stating:

“[The Dark Tower movie] manages that rare feat of being very satisfying for fans because it’s deeply loyal to the underlying material and Stephen King’s mythology, but also, I think, introduces a whole bunch of new fans.”

If everything goes according to plan, Sony will have quite the cinematic spectacle to appease long-time readers of The Dark Tower books. In addition, the new movie might just be able to manage the feat of introducing a whole new generation of moviegoers to King’s wildly original epic fantasy series.

Only time will tell how capably Arcel manages in his task of adapting the widely read and exhaustively discussed novels to the big screen. Either way, here’s to hoping that those who have been following the trials and travails of Roland Deschain will be pleased when the new movie finally hits theaters in February 2017 – and will be additionally excited when the first trailer arrives later this winter.

The Dark Tower will see theatrical release in the U.S. on February 17, 2017.
